KINGDOM DAYS

June 19th – 21st 2015

2015 Breckenridge Outhouse Races:

The running of the 8th Annual Outhouse races. In celebration of the zany character of Breckenridge and the hardships faced by our forefathers, Breckenridge hosts an event that combines a glimpse of our past in the spirit of today. There will be prizes for first, second and third places as well as the People’s Choice Outhouse Award plus entertainment and kids games in between races from Paul Borrillo.

Where: 100 block of S. Ridge St. (outside Fatty’s Pizzeria)
When: Sunday, June 21st 2:00pm – 3:30pm (kids activities begin at 12:00pm)

People’s Choice Voting at 1:00 p.m.

Free kids entertainment including face painting, bounce house, and strolling characters will be present from 12:00pm to the end of the Outhouse Races around 3:30pm.

Gold Panning Championships:

Try your luck at panning for gold and maybe strike it rich! Open to the public for free gold panning and instruction by the Gold Prospectors of Colorado.
 Where: Blue River Plaza (203 S. Main St. Breckenridge)
When: June 19th – 21st from 10am – 4pm
Cost: Free

Barney Ford Victorian Home Tour
Visit the home of Barney L. Ford: escaped slave, prominent entrepreneur and black civil rights leader.  Learn about Aunt Clara Brown, considered one of Colorado’s great pioneers, while this temporary exhibit is on display. (Available for private parties.)  Enjoy old time treats during your visit to the Barney Ford Home on Saturday.

Edwin Carter Discovery Center
Take an interactive journey into the life of Breckenridge’s famous log cabin naturalist, Professor Edwin Carter.  Great for kids!  Featured are a theatre and interactive learning center where children can try hands-on activities related to Carter’s work. (Available for private parties.)  Join us on Sunday at noon for a birthday celebration in honor of Mr. Carter complete with birthday cake and music!

Summit Ski Exhibit
This exhibit celebrates Breckenridge as the first ski town in Colorado and highlights the first 100 years of skiing in Summit County.  Included in the exhibit are items on display from the 10th Mountain Division.

Tombstone Tales at Twilight
Hear the tales of Breckenridge’s past from beyond the grave.  Stroll through the cemetery and hear the many fascinating stories of Breckenridge’s first inhabitants.
where:  Valley Brook Cemetery, 905 Airport Road, Breckenridge
time:  5:30pm, Friday and Sunday (Reservations required by 3:30pm/24 hour cancellation required)

Breckenridge World Market
The Breckenridge Sunday World Market boasts 40+vendors from around the world sharing their handmade crafts and exotic goods as well as three farms.
Where: Main Street Station, 505 South Main Street
When: Sunday, June 15th 9:00a.m. -2:00p.m.

Behind Swinging Doors Saloon Tour
Taste the spirits of the Breckenridge Distillery and learn about the historic saloons of Breckenridge.  Tour includes Distillery tasting when available.

Historic Walking Tour
Take a tour through Breckenridge’s Nationally Recognized Historic District.   Hear stories of the gold seekers, rough individuals and other hardy souls who lived in Breckenridge over 100 years ago.

The most popular tour offered – a late evening stroll through Breckenridge’s haunted historic district.  Along the way, the eerie stories from Breckenridge’s rough and raw past will be told but remain unexplained.

Take a journey back in time to Breckenridge’s hard-rock mining era.  Walk underground for a first-hand mining experience and learn to gold pan on site.  Great for kids!  Free gold pan included with tour! (Available for private parties.)

Get expert instruction and see demonstrations by the Gold Prospectors of Colorado.  Keep an eye out for anything shiny because there is real Gold in the boxes and you can keep what you find!
