Along with competitions showcasing the world’s best skiers and snowboarders, this year’s Dew Tour features live music performances, an inaugural Dew Tour film night, kicking off today, and a host of activities in town.

“Recognize: A Night of Industry Film Awards” acknowledges the contribution of films to the ski and snowboard industry. Taking place from 7-9 p.m. at the Riverwalk Center, the night will feature clips from the most relevant and breakthrough movies of the year and the participation of directors, producers and athletes who will comment live on their productions.

Gold Pan Saloon hosts a kickoff party tonight at 8 for Swany Gloves, one of Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships’ sponsors. Prizes, glove giveaways, a Swany VIP room and appearances by athletes like local Zack Black and Norway-native Kjersti Buaas, will be some of the night’s attractions.

Entertainment at the Gold Pan consists of a live performance by musician and environmentalist Todd Anders Johnson at 9:30 p.m and a multimedia projection show with ski and snowboard films, produced by the Risan Project. The Risan Project is an organization that produces solar-powered events, film premieres and presentations to raise awareness about climate change.

Tonight at three20south, witness the Austin-based producer/composer Govinda, the alter ego of Shane Madden. According to the artist, his name came from a meditation experience when people chanted Hari Govinda and he had an epiphany that he was meant to bring music to the world to expand consciousness.

Govinda’s sound is a combination of live electronics and gypsy violin, resulting from the musician’s experience as a violin student since the age of 8 and his enchantment with electronic music production during his years studying classic violin at the University of Texas. He describes his sound as “gypsy violin with ambient, sexy textures and postmodern mid-tempo beats.” His resume includes live performances at festivals such as Coachella and South by Southwest and playing with groups like Thievery Corporation.

Sharing the stage with Govinda is Brooklyn, N.Y., guitarist and producer D.V.S* (Derek VanScoten), who will play a cross between rock and electronica. “I’m always looking to create a sweaty, intelligent dance floor,” he said. D.V.S* defines his music as “lots of sexy electronic dance styles based around my live guitar playing. … I’d say Hendrix mixed with Bonobo high on Red Bull.”

Doors open at 9 p.m. and tickets are $10.
