A four-day festival featuring interactive artworks, temporary installations and musical performances in and around the Blue River Plaza, transforming the river, bridges and waterfront area into outdoor canvasses and exhibition spaces.

CLOUD is a large-scale interactive work sculpted from 6,000 incandescent light bulbs. The piece incorporates hundreds of pull-strings to create a simple, bright, and playfully collaborative work. Stand inside and underneath to become part of an impromptu team that animates the sculpture, creating “lightning” within and without. Stand outside the sculpture and witness both the upturned, smiling faces of the collaborators as well as the unpredictable display of distant rain clouds and stormy skies familiar to people everywhere.
The first edition of CLOUD was commissioned for Nuit Blanche Calgary in 2012. A second edition was commissioned by Garage Museum of Contemporary Art for Art Experiment 2013 (Moscow).

THE CREATORS
Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett work with diverse mediums and materials, ranging from artificial light to re-appropriated architectural debris. Their projects explore the social e§ects of light, interactivity, site-specificity, collaboration, and play. Regular collaborators since 2010, Caitlind and Wayne have exhibited work in Canada, Russia, the United States, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Singapore, Israel, and South Korea.

THE CREATOR
Conceptual artist Scott Young works in a variety of new media including video and installation, but his primary focus is neon-based artwork. His piece “Wish You Were Here” (which also reads “Wish You Were Her”) previously graced the top of the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. His critically acclaimed exhibition Gas Light Love Bomb was the inaugural exhibition for K Contemporary and set the stage for the gallery’s immersive solo exhibition style.
LODGING
Les Voyageurs (The Travelers) and Les Oiseaux (The Birds) are ethereal, illuminated artworks delicately sculpted from chicken wire by French artist Cédric Le Borgne. The luminous figures take human and bird form, appearing and disappearing in the night sky. Sitting on roofs, perched in trees or suspended in the air, they appear to look at you, or perhaps past you. They invite you to glance up and around, they offer the possibility of a connection between the sky and the ground, between dream and reality.
Traveling from Toulouse to Geneva, from Seoul and now, for the first time, to the U.S., eight of these beautiful, spiritual figures will be located throughout the Arts District and the Blue River Plaza.

THE CREATOR
Cédric Le Borgne is a French artist who creates incredible illuminated sculptures using chicken wire. The figures are often installed in highly visible public places, suspended in the air in parks or in busy urban centers. Le Borgne invites everyone to view daily life in a fresh way, to rise up, to dream. By abolishing barriers, his work of exploring spaces is sensitive, his poetry subtly interacts with each place it comments upon. From sculptures to photo or video, from perennial installations to spontaneous performance, from street-art to web-art, his work is free of formal constraints.
LODGING
Out of the darkness, a moving light appears in between the trees; dancing in the middle of the sky it looks like a mirage. Light Matters is a media installation that projects images from natural phenomena onto a large net, giving the effect of a hologram in the air.
Since the beginning of time, light has existed in its most existential form providing comfort and enchantment. More and more, artificial light tends to steal the thunder of natural lights and darkness. These natural phenomena are hiding nowadays in pure darkness like a diamond in a mine. To reveal these marvelous pieces of natural light into the heart of the city, Light Matters proposes a travel around the world and further. Rare treasures from the universe, the northern skies, the deep sea, the center of the earth and more will float above us reminding people how much light matters. You can continuously be mesmerized by the versatility, power and beauty of light, which has been around for so much longer than man.

THE CREATORS
ACT Lighting Design (ACTLD) is a Belgian based design agency founded by Koert Vermeulen in 1995. Today, the agency is specialized in lighting, visual and environmental design. Their portfolio includes light designs for interiors, buildings and outdoor spaces, as well as temporary lighting design and installations for festivals, ceremonies, shows and events. Innovation, personal experience and sustainability make up the core of the agency’s design practice.
LODGING
The work is inspired by the zoetrope, an optical toy invented in the 19th century. Loop is a cross between a music box, a zoetrope and a railway handcar. The retro-futuristic machine, more than two metres in diameter, creates animated fairy-tale Loops. Through the combined efforts of members of the public working the hand lever, the image cylinder lights up and creates the illusion of motion in the drawings.
The black and white images, tinted through a strobe effect, recall the earliest movies and are visible inside the cylinder as well as outside it, so that they can be watched from close up or far away. The speed at which the images fly by, the frequency at which the light flickers and the rhythm of the audio composition are all directly related to the pace set by the participants, who can be of any age.
Loop was first presented as part of the 7th edition of Luminothérapie, in 2016-2017, at the Place des Festivals in the Quartier des Spectacles in Montreal.

LODGING
Tension lures the visitor into a maze of neon mystically bent into dangling “ropes” of illuminated glass. The glowing cables defy the physics of their medium and appear to loosely hang on mechanical pulley systems, evocative of machinery used in the mining era of Summit County. Scott Young’s work confuses the senses and invites us to question what in our life appears vital and warm, but secretly possesses a tenuous fragility that only survives through devoted care.

THE PARTNER
The National Repertory Orchestra is a preeminent intensive fellowship that equips young musicians for orchestral music careers while providing the highest-level of musical experience for all stakeholders. Based in Breckenridge, the NRO performs an annual eight-week summer season in residence at Riverwalk Center.

THE ARTIST
Russick Smith is a cellist, multi-instrumentalist, engineer, and composer from Colorado. His music is derived from a life of experiences as intriguing as they are varied and rooted in the American West. He plays across a wide variety of genres using cello, electric bass, double bass, piccolo bass, mandolin, dobro, piano, tiple, concertina, and shamisen while also programming drum tracks, synthesizers, and playing various percussive devices. He is also credited on one album playing the didgeridoo.

THE PARTNER
The Breckenridge Film Festival, founded in 1981, is one of the oldest film festivals in the country. Educational outreach programs, children’s films, celebrity guests, educational forums and workshops for all ages and other events celebrating the art of film, contribute to the festival’s diverse program.

LightCycles is an event that encourages local cyclists to light up their bikes for a parade through the WAVE exhibition site. Riders should gather between 7-8pm at Psycle9600 (505 S Main Street) with pre-decorated bikes, or gear up onsite with free glow swag, and ride from 8-9pm. Participants are encouraged to use reusable lights. Prizes will be awarded to the “greenest” bikes. This event is a co-produced with the Cycle Effect and Psycle9600.

Come try glass blowing! Bending thin pieces of glass, our instructor will help you create something fun that will be hung creating a chandelier and you’ll get a small taste of how much fun the medium can be can be. Your creations will add to a community art piece.
Safety is an extremely high priority. Please wear natural fiber clothing (such as cotton or wool) and if you wear glasses, contact lenses are preferable. Participants must be 15 or older. Up to 6 people can work at any given time; if the studio is busy you will be limited to your time behind the torch by our instructor.

From August 9 – 11, experience the best guitar playing in the world at the 15th annual Guitar Town. The weekend includes three days of free acoustic and electric performances, guitar workshops, free guitar repairs from the Guitar Center and music activities for the kids.
Last year’s Guitar Town featured Al Di Meola, Robben Ford, Coco Montoya, John Jorgenson, Andy McKee, Pat Bergeson, Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley, Rory Hoffman, Christie Lenée, Stig Mathisen, Scott Goldman, and Mark Selby Tribute. Also, Andy May’s Acoustic Kids Showcase will take place on the Guitar Center Stage at West Lake on Saturday night.

Save the Date for the 2019 Woodward Copper WreckTangle Championships August 10th, 2019!
Format:
- Contestants will have two runs to post their fastest single run time through the WreckTangle. If a contestant falls or walks around any obstacle, there will be a 60 second penalty added to that run’s total time.
- Awards will be given to the top three female and top three male competitors from each age group, as well as top 3 overall best run times.
Cost: $35 per participant, includes event tee-shirt, warm up session, two WreckTangle runs during competition, and awards for division winners.
Age Divisions:
5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-26, 27-36, 37-47, 48+
Event organizers reserve the right to change or modify age divisions, competition rules and competition format if necessary.
COPPER TRIANGLE
COPPER TRIANGLE
A spectacular 78-mile loop cresting three mountain passes – Fremont Pass (elevation 11,318’), Tennessee Pass (elevation 10,424’) and Vail Pass (elevation 10,666’). The course passes three ski areas and is littered with historic mining outposts and Camp Hale, the training ground for the famous 10th Mountain Division. The total elevation gain for the course is 5,981 ft. A great day on two wheels. The Alpine Cycling Classic exemplifies cycling in the Colorado Rockies which features challenging high-altitude climbs over Fremont Pass, Tennessee Pass and Vail Pass.
